“When Life is Sweet, Say Thank You and Celebrate. When Life is Bitter, Say Thank you and Grow” – Shauna Niequist

… the sweetness of ice cream pairs wonderfully well with the bitter and umami of matcha … that way you celebrate & grow healthy at the same time ; )

This recipe is a twist on the original italian affogato which usually uses a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a shot of hot espresso … it balances a fine line between drink & dessert.. Since we  love traditional affogatos, it was simply natural to use the SAKU blends to make them. This is a recipe for a Vanilla Maple Jade matcha affogato, but please experiment, because affogatos with all the SAKU blends are delicious AND a great way to sneak in some superfood benefits into an absolute  treat! 😉 … Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 tsp Vanilla Maple Jade
  • ¼ cup Warm Water (~80 degrees)
  • Vanilla Ice Cream (make it vegan with coconut or soy ice-cream)
  • Maple Syrup, Coconut Flakes & a bit of Black Hawaiian Sea Salt

HOW TO MAKE:

  • Scoop ice cream into a glass
  • Sift Vanilla Maple Jade into a bowl and mix with water … try using a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) or a handheld milk frother for a smooth liquid
  • Pour matcha over ice cream
  • Top off with maple syrup, coconut flakes,  a little salt & a sprinkle of the Vanilla Maple Jade  ; )
